Wasted chances prove costly
A difficult away game against newly promoted Totton and Eling proved just how strong the Wessex Premier league will be this season . Totton started off the game very well and playing a 4-3-3 formation seamed to have the better of the visitors 1st half . Playing some good football they did manage to carve open the Romsey defence for the Totton skipper to slot home with a well taken finish . Romsey started upping their performance and got in a couple of useful crosses and started to dominate more . A good chance was missed 10 minutes before half time which would have put the visitors level .
Second half started brightly and The Town pilled on the pressure with Totton barely getting out of their own half in the opening 10 minutes , but as often happens in football Totton broke and went 2-0 up with a 20 yard drive in to the corner of a disspairing Hookways net . Romsey continued to press and defiantly created chance after chance but could not seem to hit that net . Amongst all the pressure Totton did manage to break and an excellent save by Hookway kept the score within reach . With 5 minutes to go and with the feeling it may be one of those days Nathan Bailey got on the end of a Donaldson cross to make it 2-1. The last 5 minutes were an exciting affair with Romsey bombarding the Totton goal , Long beating 2 players to have his shot well saved and a far post header spurned by Sampays left Totton with all 3 points and The Town wondering what could have been .
A dissapointing result from our point of view and no doubt a thrilling game for a neutral . One thing is for sure and that is there will be no easy games in this league this year and for all the chances we create we are gonna have to start putting them away sooner rather than later !
