1-1 Draw for opening fixture
A very difficult game to open our campaign against a very strong and improved Brading side . We started off badly and after 15 mins of the game found ourselves a goal behind after some sloppy defending. We continued to plug away and played some good football at times in particular through Tanner, who after a jinking run hit a shot that came back off the inside of the post and into a grateful keepers hands . We continued to press and after a number of set pieces had another good chance when a Dean Cousins header was saved by the keeper. Dean Cole had a good chance saved and despite playing some decent football the ball never seemed to fall where we wanted it to . Brading defended well up to half time and always looked a threat on the break with some impressive and lively forwards. The second half was much the same with The Town passing the ball well and Brading looking Dangerous on the break . Romsey finally got the breakthrough when a deep corner was headed back across goal and into the roof of the net by skipper Iain Calder. Brading did have an excellent chance to retake the lead but an excellent save from Hookway kept the teams on level terms , and Cole had a good chance for The Town only to see his shot go inches wide of the opponents post . All in all not the worst start and a fair result although im sure the stats would show we had the lions share of possession and chances , however Brading were very dangerous on the counter attack and I predict they will upset many a side this season .
